Description

The Laurel School District is seeking both permanent and substitute Bus Drivers for daily a.m. and/or p.m. routes. Regular bus routes run approximately 4 hours per day (2 hours AM and 2 hours PM). The beginning wage is $15.60 per hour. Extra-curricular driving opportunities are also available. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Applicants must be 21 years old, have a valid driver’s license, have a minimum of 5 years experience as a licensed driver, and hold, or be eligible to obtain, a CDL, with Air Brakes, Passenger Endorsement and School Bus Endorsement. Must pass a DOT Drug test and Level II Background Check.

 

The District will assist successful applicants in obtaining their Commercial Driver’s License, with air brake clearance, if they do not already have one. The District will pay for the required 10 hours of training, the DOT physical and First Aid & CPR class for all successful applicants. Contact the Transportation Office at 628-7630 for information regarding additional qualifications.

 

Prior to first day of employment, fingerprints, background checks, and other district requirements must be complete.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Operates school bus or transportation vehicle over an assigned route in accordance with an established schedule, while exercising extreme caution and professionalism through a variety of weather and road conditions.
  • Boards and discharges student passengers in a safe and orderly manner and prepares student discipline citations as needed.
  • Adheres to all rules/regulations as established in the district safety policy and strives to maintain an accident-free work place.
  • Enforces District policies and procedures related to transportation and maintains order on the bus.
  • Prepares daily reports/paperwork related to job assignment.
  • Complies with all federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.
  • Participates in training, workshops and meetings as necessary.
  • Conducts routine vehicle inspections and performs minor repairs and/or schedules major repairs with appropriate vendors.
  • Maintains awareness of work environment and immediately notifies building administrators of any potential hazards observed.
  • Reports accidents or injuries to the building administrator immediately.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable provisions of state motor vehicle code and education code, as related to bus driving and transporting students.
